Create a FIF branch

Why should I create a FIF branch?

Financial literacy is a fundamental life skill that affects everything from day-to-day to long-term financial decisions, and our rapidly changing world economy makes financial illiteracy more dangerous than ever. As the result of the lack of financial resources and opportunities in addition to being discouraged from pursuing finance, women are among the groups with the lowest levels of financial literacy.

By creating a branch, you can make a difference in closing the financial literacy gap for women. At Females in Finance, we value collaboration, communication, and leadership. Teaching girls in your community about financial literacy helps them build a foundation in effective money management early on so that they can become confident, self sufficient and financially stable. Through our proprietary Females in Finance curriculums designed for high school and middle school students, girls can learn the basics of finance through dynamic group work. Members of your branch can have access to our network of Females in Finance branches across the country as well as our network of female finance professionals in our Mentorship Program.

To apply, read over the Branch Information Packet, submit an application through our google form, and schedule a meeting with us!

If you have any questions, feel free to email our Outreach Director at vivian@femalesinfinance.net.

Note: You do not necessarily need a strong background in math, economics, or finance to create a Females in Finance branch. Our only requirements are that you are open-minded, communicative, and adaptable!

FAQ

Can I still apply to create a branch if the school year already started?

While we encourage girls to apply 2-3 months before school starts so that they have time to review the materials and resources necessary before teaching, we do take applications after the school year has started. However, if you are applying to create a branch at a school, we do require you to obtain school permission to create a club in order to be officially recognized as a FIF branch.

Who is eligible to create a branch?

Any student between 7th to 12th grade can apply to create a branch.

What if I'm already running a different club at my school?

You are still welcome to apply to create a FIF branch even if you are running a different club at your school, as long as you can effectively manage both clubs.

Do I need to know finance to start a branch?

No, you do not need to have a background in finance, statistics, or economics to start a FIF branch. We will provide you with the resources needed to have a solid foundation before you teach. Our only requirements are that you are open-minded, communicative, and adaptable.

How can I get involved with Females in Finance if I am not a female identifying student?

Other ways that you can get involved include submitting artwork for our website, applying to become a mentor, writing for our FIF blog, and becoming a sponsor!
